Weekly update

During this past week, I met with the Univ. of Delhi students in regards to the design of the database for this project. They were very anxious to begin working on this project and I am glad that they are excited to be a part of this team.
The requirement version 1.5 is available on the wiki. We are waiting for final validation. Since we are beginning the design phase, I know that there are more changes to come to the requirements. But, this is good. I prefer for all of us to have a common understanding of this project before building it. One thing I noticed is that the requirements documents don't have the same language when referring to the resources in the library. This is something that the ITC students should agree upon so we can consolidate on the US side.

Update

This week we finalized the requirements document (there were some changes to be made to our previous version) and we are waiting for the validation from the ITC students. We sent the RFP doc to the Delhi students and I hope that everything goes well. As for the problems of this week, our main problem has been the meeting times. Since the ITC students have a new class schedule, we had to change our meeting times to Wednesday mornings, which presented a problem for us since either the time was too early or we had class or work to go to. But, we had a compromise and decided to have the meeting from 7-8am on Weds. (US time). It is early, but the ITC students have to do the same thing for us on Saturdays for our meeting at 7 am (PP time). The least thing we could do is return the favor.
Now, we move to our next phase of the project ...design!!! Keep up the good work everyone!

Weekly Update

This is our final week in our requirements phase. We have experienced various problems. The main problem has been trying to distinguish what requirement falls under the librarian component or the student componen requiret. Communication has been another big factor in this phase. Many of the questions that we had for the ITC students were mainly about their policy. Since this is a new system, trying to determine a new policy for both students and professors has been quite tough. Luckily we were all able to come to a conclusion that the policy was going to be variable based and that librarian will be the person maintaining it.
I believe that we have achieved a lot at the end of this requirement phase.

Thanks and Updates

I would like to thank the Cambodian students for the gifts that they sent to us as well as the postcards. It was a pleasure meeting the Cambodian Professor, Longchrea NEAK on Thursday. I learned alot about ITC as well as the project. So far this project has been a learning experience. I can learn about software engineering, the cultures of other countries, and meet new friends along the way.
We have done great progress this week.
So far, the project is going well. The US team was able to create a questionnaire for the Cambodian students and promptly receive answers from them as well as their professor. We have all been doing a great job.
Next week, we are scheduled to have a draft of the requirements document.
